Why Messi is the G.O.A.T Infographic
24"x18" Poster Infographic and Digital Animated Infographic
Overview
For this project, I created a 24"x18" Infographic poster for why the famous soccer player, Leonel Messi is the G.O.A.T (greatest of all time). The perimeters around this project were that we could pick any topic we wanted, but we had to base the concept on something debatable or controversial. We needed visual charts and comparisons with statistics and research. I decided to argue why Messi is the greatest soccer player of all time.
Process
For this Infographic I looked for interesting ways to highlight the information and statistics I wanted to convey. I needed to argue why Messi can be seen as the greatest soccer player of all time. He recently won a World Cup with Argentina, which is what most people contribute his secured role as the "GOAT" to, so I wanted to incorporate the Argentina Flag and its colors into the poster. The title font is similar to the font used in the country's soccer badge to further connect the poster to Argentina soccer. I used statistics on the number of career goals he scored and what age he was when he scored them to show his versatility as an athlete over time. I included a heat map of where he got touches on the field during the last World Cup to show his range and movement. I included his impressive lineup of prestigious trophies as well as direct stats comparing him against his biggest competitor to the label of the greatest soccer player, Ronaldo. For the animation aspect of this project, I rearranged the poster into a longer composition so that I was able to display the statistics in a way that makes sense. The comparison of Ronaldo and Messi is visual as the line graph grows towards each other showing how Messi dominates most aspects represented. Also, you get a visual representation of the awards he has won. I wanted the animation to highlight Messi and his achievements as well as his patriotism for Argentina, so that is why I included the waving flag and kept the color palette inspired by it as well.
